Happy Valentine's Day! Hope your "sweetie" gets you something really nice, or does something really nice for you today!

I didn't do any crafting yesterday. Sarah came over at noon. I made her lunch then we went out shopping all afternoon. Stopped by and visited with Skip's mom Kate since we were by her house. Sarah and John hadn't seen her since Christmas time, so we all enjoyed the visit. After that it was back home for dinner. Sarah enjoyed having "mom" make her two home cooked meals in one day.

Just wanted to share some Valentines that I received with you. Above card was made by Connie. I like the shade of kraft cardstock used for this. Connie is that a Hollo's cardstock?

And this card was made by Kat. I love the embossing folder used for this card. Also like the fact that just part of the circle layers were cut.
Thanks for the cards girls!

Skip is working day shift the next two days to cover for a co-worker. I plan to start some of my Spring cleaning today, and hit the grocery store. Skip asked me yesterday what I wanted for Valentines Day. I told him to surprise me so we will see what he comes up with.

I just love this camouflage outfit. Had to search several stores before finding the Aspen thread by Aunt Lidia. Well worth the hunt. I did have a stand by website to order the thread that Kat found for me. Thanks for hunting with me Kat.

The little black lace up boots are so adorable. Was a bit tricky getting the pant bottoms to fit into the high top boots, but I got them to work.

Hello

Happy Sunday! We received just a bit over 6 inches of snow yesterday. Temps are chilly in the lower 20's. Hubby and me had to go out around 3 pm and run the snowblower and shovel the walkways. BRRRR. Shouldn't complain much as this has been a very mild winter for us.

Since it was really cold out I spent time at the kitchen table soaking in as much sun as I could and working on a new outfit for my 5" doll. I did venture down to the stamping studio and made this card. Stamp set Posy Punch. This is first time I've used this Hostess set. I hadn't even put it together yet and I've had it for months. Shame on me.

Just Peachy Birthday

Just a quick and easy card to share today. Base card is Peach Parfait. Circle layer, Soft Suede, scallop, and ribbon layer cream. Stamp set Flower Fest, and Perfectly Penned. As silly me made the card before I checked the ribbon stash....you know where this is going....at first I didn't see ribbon I could use, then I checked the Big Jar

My friend Connie decorated this big glass jar, then filled it with ribbon for me as a birthday gift several years ago. I reach for it when I don't see the ribbon I need in my ribbon bins. Thanks again Connie!

I spent yesterday cleaning the house. It sure needed it. Yesterday was also a day for phone calls. Several of my friends, my sister, and Sarah called me. I was feeling the love!

Color Booking

I did it! I got over my fear of that large detail bird image from the Take it to Heart stamp set. I think what was bothering me was all that open space in the heart. This time after the image was colored I ran the heart through an embossing folder. Colors used: Concord Crush, Wisteria Wonder, Pear Pizzazz, Crumb Cake, and Early Espresso. Tiny Tags stamp set used for the words.

Take it to Heart

I must first say that the large bird from the stamp set Take it to Heart scared me. Wasn't sure how I wanted to add color to this large detailed image. So I took the cowards approach....shabby chic. I love shabby chic for me its a non perfect art form.

First I inked the stamp with basic black ink then stamped on a coffee filter. For the color I used Marina Mist, Crumb Cake, Old Olive, and Baja Breeze watercolor crayons. I applied these directly to the image then softened them by going over them with an aqua painter. While the image was still wet I threw on (yes I did just throw it on) some clear embossing powder, then heat set. I wanted a little more shimmer so I spritzed on some Tattered Angels iridescent gold glimmer mist. Filter was then crumbled up and glued on a heart shape piece of white cardstock. Last step was to sponge Chocolate Chip ink around the outside edges of the heart.

Romantic Lolly Holders

I found the idea for the lolly holders while surfing some blogs. They remind me of vintage romance with the cream, red and kraft cardstock colors. stamp set Forever Young. I used heart lolly pops I found at the dollar store for this project. If you'd like to make some holders here are the measurements.

Cut cardstock 6 1/2 x 2 1/4. Then score this piece at 2 1/2 and again at 4". Designer paper layer on front is cut 2 1/4 x 2. After decorating the front run a line of red line tape at the inside top of the holder. Remove tape and stick the lolly stick to the center then stick the back and front together. Super easy.

Well I have to jot off to the grocery store. I'm just about out of fresh veggies. One of my least favorite tasks is food shopping. Since the stores are close maybe I'll stop at Hallo's. I need more cardstock (sure I do!) No really I need some more cream....honest.

Lunchtime Sketch Challenge 207

I'm so glad I started playing along again with Mary Jo's Monday lunchtime sketch challenges. They are so much fun and the layouts give me much needed inspiration!

For this challenge I started with basic gray cardstock for the base. Top layer is vanilla, and designer paper used for the lower layer. Hearts, lace ribbon and word are layered on a strip of black. I think the black cardstock really makes the heart and other elements pop! Stamp sets used Take it to Heart, and word "love" is from Tiny Tags.

Sorry no post yesterday. I was feeling a bit under the weather. Pretty much just rested. We did catch the Super Bowl, and my nephews stop by to watch it with us. I just knew the Giants would win. It was a great game.

Sun Suit

I've been doing pretty good with keeping up with my New Years Resolution. I've been averaging 1 doll dress a week. I found a little doll stand for the 5" baby, but hubby had to alter it for me as it was a bit to tall for the doll. Her feet still don't touch the bottom of the stand, but its not to bad.

Back view shows the little ruffles going across her bottom.

I like how full the legs are. Really roomie just like a real crawler would be for a baby.

We will be going out to the Home and Garden show today so I should have pictures of that to share on tomorrows post.

Happy Birthday Mom

Today would have been my mom's (Gladys) 80th birthday. She died this past May. I was going through some old family pictures trying to find just the right one to post today. To me this photo captures her spirit. She loved to laugh. I know she made the circle skirt she is wearing in this photo. Since her passing is still recent to me I find it still hard to talk about mom, and remember things. I plan to put a remembrance scrapbook together about her life, but not just yet. Hopefully later this year I'll be able to start.

Happy Ground Hog Day

Since I'm writing this up Tuesday night I have no idea if the groundhog will see his shadow or not today. I've been tossing around an idea for a card to celebrate the little furry guy so I found time to play around in the stamping studio yesterday afternoon. This is what I came up with. Large oval punch for his body and 3/8 circle punch for the ears. The rest is drawn in with a black marker. I did make his shadow a bit thinner to make it fit on the card. Inspired by Nature used to make the grass. Lattice Square embossing folder for the hill. Chocolate Chip cardstock used for his burrow. Words were printed out on the computer.

It was warmer again yesterday. Got up to 53 in my neck of the woods. Oh and speaking of woods....I saw a deer in the backyard yesterday morning. Since the first one we saw last May they having been coming back more often. I bet they are just waiting for me to plant sweet potatoes again so they can munch away. LOL

Another Techno Challenge 206

Its February! I can't believe it. Yesterday temps got up to 60 degrees, and today it will be in the lower 40's. We should have a ton of snow on the ground by this time of the year. Must be that global warming. I'm thinking the ground hog will see his shadow tomorrow for sure.

I did another Techno Challenge that Mary Jo has posted on her blog. You can view all the other great samples on her site here

I like white, Crumb Cake, and Real Red when used together. Stamp sets used Delicate Doilies, and Kindness Matters. I'm going to list this as a clean and simple card. Takes only a few minutes to make. Sometimes you just have to have a no fuss card that still looks great.

Jumped on the chance at the good weather yesterday to shake the rugs outside and do some early Spring cleaning. Of course after the rugs were shook out I felt compelled to throw them in the washing machine.

Today I'll be going over to spend some time with my mom in law Kate. I haven't seen her in a while so I've been missing her.

Playing with Embossing Folder

I was playing around with the Big Shot yesterday and the square lattice embossing folder. I turned the folder sideways and butted it up to the top of the score line on the base card then ran it through the big shot. I stamped the word "Thanks" in Early Espresso then ran the folder through again, but I just did it on the lower part just under the word.

Next I used the scoring tool to add a score line above the word stamp, and a score line below the word. I like it! Stamp set used Rue Des Fleurs. Large oval punch and oval from designer frames folders also used.

Sarah stopped over yesterday afternoon. First time I saw her since Christmas. She got the cast removed and is able to walk again. Her ankle is still weak and healing so she is taking it easy. She did go back to work, but she won't be jogging again for a while. Much to her dismay. It was wonderful to see her, she looks great as always. I fed her some homemade chicken noodle soup and pumpkin spice muffins....once a mother always a mother. Is there nothing that chicken soup can't heal?

Another Card for the Box

I made another card for the card box holder I made last week. This one features the oval designer frame, and vintage wallpaper embossing folder.

I may take a break from making these cards. You should see my desk! Well I just dare you to find my desk, as its covered with cardstock, stamps, ink, and punches. Guess I better clean it up today. I keep pushing things over to make room to stamp, so now I only have this little corner left and that space has my laptop on it.

We had a bit of a storm yesterday. The wind was rattling the windows and the sky turned into a white out from the snow. Didn't last long, and today the temps are climbing into the low 40's. Tomorrow....get this....they are predicting 53 degrees. WOW!!!!

Hand Penned and Established Elegance

I like how the word set Hand Penned goes with Established Elegance stamp set. I thought I would combine these two great sets and make cards for the card box I posted yesterday. Color Pallet for the cards: Crumb Cake, Cherry Cobbler, Marina Mist, Baja Breeze, Early Espresso, and vanilla.

Did you see Lisa? I used one of the vintage buttons she gave me on this card.

This is one of my favorite cards from the ones I'm creating. Love, love, love the dressmaker dummy stamp. I didn't have narrow ribbon so I just used a 1/4 strip of Cherry Cobbler cardstock and tied a piece of vintage lace around it. Doily background stamp also used. For both cards I used the vintage wallpaper embossing folder.

We had snow yesterday morning. Not a lot but enough to coat the trees and grass. Didn't even snow enough to run the snow thrower. So far it has been a mild winter. Kids haven't even had a snow day yet. Having said that......I'm sure we will be hit with 4 feet of snow!

Card Box

This card box holds standard A2 size cards. I really like the lid. After scoring I used a border punch all the way around before adhering the flaps. Collage stamping done with Established Elegance and doily background stamps. I'll be showing the matching cards on tomorrows blog posting.

Here you can see the lid removed from the box. I'll be posting a tutorial soon on how to make the box, and lid.

More Buttons

I received this beautiful thank you card in the mail from my friend Lisa yesterday. Just love the shimmery snowflake, and all those pearls.

Lisa also answered my call for cream colored buttons. These are some pretty "vintage" buttons. Lisa said she had to clean them twice with baking soda and a toothbrush. I love my friends! Big thanks Lisa.

Not much going on today. Skip has the day off. I'll be dropping off a SU order later in the day. Might do a little shopping. Other than that no real plans. I need to go and check in on my mom in law so I may just do that over the weekend.

Shabby Chic Heart Card

I love the vintage typewriter that is in the Established Elegance stamp set. I do like the new stamp set in the Occasions mini that has a typewriter, but I'm not going to get that set seeing how I have a typewriter stamp already.

Base card Crumb Cake, layers Cherry Cobbler, and designer paper. Lace ribbon and Cherry Cobbler seam binding at the bottom of card. I also added a few half pearl beads just to add some interest.

We got freezing rain last night so the roads are a mess. Glad I got out and about yesterday as I won't be going out today.

Faux Silk Again

Since I still had coffee filters and Take It to Heart stamp set on my desk I knew it would lead to another project. This time I used the technique on a manilla shipping tag. Colors Cherry Cobbler, Pear Pizzazz, Early Espresso, and vanilla.

I added a some lace to the bottom and ruffled it as I went along sticking it into the adhesive.

I was in the mood to make cookies yesterday but since I'm trying to stay away from sugar I did a google search and came up with the recipe for these diabetic applesauce cookies. They were pretty good with a spot of tea yesterday afternoon.

1/2 flour
1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp allspice
1/2 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 cup un-sweetened applesauce
1/4 cup oil
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla

heat oven to 375
mix all dry ingredients in large bowl. Mix wet in a smaller bowl. Combine wet with the dry and mix well. Drop by rounded teaspoons on cookie sheet. Bake 12 minutes. I got about 2 dozen from this recipe. The kitchen smelled really good with all those spices!

Playing with Colors

Playing around with some colors I wouldn't normally put together. This card has vanilla, Chocolate Chip, Sahara Sand, Pink Pirouette, and Melon Mambo cardstock. Might be a bit over the top. I like how I popped the small hearts over the center of the trees. Gives it just a pop of color on the Early Espresso ink. The Pink Pirouette strip was inked with Very Vintage wheel using the same ink but it is very faint. Card also uses 2 1/2 circle, large scallop circle, and scallop border punch. Not sure if I'm happy with the outcome.

Had some wet weather yesterday and some thunder which is very weird for January. I woke up to a dusting of snow. So it went from 43 to 32 in less than 12 hours. Is Spring here yet?

Techo Lunchtime Sketch 205

I haven't played around with Mary Jo's lunchtime sketch in a very long time so I decided to jump right in with my take on her sketch. You can visit Mary Jo's blog here

I used Soft Suede, Pear Pizzazz, Crumb Cake and Very Vanilla to make the card. Since Rue Des Fleurs was still on my desk from the tag I made on yesterdays post I reached for it. So much easier than getting up out of my chair and going to the shelve. I know I'm lazy but I'm actually a bit sore from yesterdays workout so have some pity for me!

Here you can see a close up of the bodice. I stamped it on Pear Pizzazz, and popped it up on Soft Suede image. Then used mini pearls to put down the front. I just love this stamp set. It is so me!!!!

Playing Catch Up

Sorry for the late post today. It was pretty warm out....42 degrees. So I spent some time outside. Shoveled off the rest of the back deck. Not an easy thing to do as the snow was wet and heavy. Good workout though! Also did some walking. Me and hubby went out to get new kitchen curtains. So of course those had to be ironed before they could be put up.

I spent part of the morning going through designer paper. Had to sort some out of the stash. It will be donated. Also had to go through a ton of chip board pieces. I can't believe the amount of stamping stuff I have.

Okay on to the tag. Stamp set Rue Des Fleurs. This set was just screaming my name when I saw it in the mini catalog. Right up my alley for vintage stamping. Colors Cajun Craze, Early Espresso, Old Olive, and vanilla. I used Delicate Doilies for the background. Umbrella was stamped with black ink, then I stamped and cut out the top part with Cajun Craze. Eyelet border punched used for the bottom of tag.

Gotta run my new favorite TV show will be on soon Once Upon a Time.

SU Stars Ebony and Ivory Hop

Hi Stampers! Welcome to the SU Stars Ebony & Ivory Hop. I'm number two on this hop. If you'd like to start at the beginning click here

The main layer for this card uses the Faux Silk technique. I've done a photo tutorial for you today so you can see how easy and fun this technique is. Stamp set used Take it to Heart, Doily background, and Delicate Doilies. I also used the word "thanks" from Rue Des Fleurs. The larger heart was stamped with white craft ink on black cardstock, then embossed with detail white embossing powder. Antique brad used for the center.

First thing you'll need to create the Faux Silk is a coffee filter. Stamp the filter with your choice of stamps and ink. After stamping is finished crumble up the filter in your hand. (great stress buster!)

Next open up the filter and smooth it out, but leave some of the wrinkles.

Cut a white piece of cardstock to the size you are using for the layer. Use a glue stick (the anywhere glue stick from SU is great for this) all over the cardstock making sure to get it into the corners also. Lay the stamped filter ink side down on your work surface then press the cardstock onto the filter.

Next trim off the edges of the filter. To miter: cut off the filter overlap at each corner on an angle.

Use adhesive to glue the edges of the filter to the back of the cardstock. You can now attach your completed piece to your card. On the above card I used the spritzer tool and a black marker to the completed layer. I made a tote and matching card last week using this technique you can see it here

Working in the Kitchen

I didn't stamp at all today. It was so sunny (but very cold), so I took advantage of all that light coming in the kitchen window. Spent a good part of the day sitting at the kitchen table working on my crochet. I have 4 Easter dresses to make for the 5" dolls, and the natural light helps to see all those tiny stitches.

Casing a Layout

I received this great card yesterday from my friend Kat, and I just loved the layout so much that I had to case it from her card.

I used Take it to Heart stamp set in Pear Pizzazz, Regal Rose, Melon Mambo, Crumb Cake, vanilla cardstock, and ink. The word is from another fav stamp set of mine Occasions Alphabet. Other things used, vanilla seam binding, pop dots, and vintage wallpaper embossing folder.

I'm off to start making tonight's dinner in the crock pot. We are having cheesy chicken spaghetti, a family favorite.

Hearts in Brown and Blue

I just received this set Take it to Heart last week. I actually got it free from SU. Gotta love free stuff. Crumb Cake cardstock is my new love. Well I've always loved it, but lately I seem to reach for it first when designing a card. Kids inked with Early Espresso and stamped on vanilla cardstock. Baja Breeze, and Marina Mist cardstock used for smaller hearts. Tiny Tags stamp set and jewelry tag punch pieces were attached with bakers twine.

Close up view of the stamped images. I really like this card, and think it can go in the clean and simple category.

Have to run now. My nephews stopped by for a visit. I feel another board game coming on.

My Valentine

I was surfing the web and found a layout for this card. I changed it up a bit to use the supplies I had on hand. Base card black, stamps from Established Elegance, and Flexible Phrases. Hearts are punched using Trio Heart punch in Melon Mambo, and Regal Red cardstock. Strips at the bottom card are done with Old Olive. I like how the tip of the ink pen makes the strip look like an arrow. I thought the row of hearts needed something so I just did a straight stitch with the sewing machine.

For the inside I used another "arrow"

Today was a strange weather day. It started off my raining, then I heard some thunder. By mid afternoon it was clear and 42 degrees, so I took a walk outside. A few hours later the wind started whipping. The windows were all rattling. At the end of the day as I'm writing this....its snowing. What a day!!!!

Silly Cat and Soup Recipe

My cat Burbank is just plain silly. He doesn't play very much, but he does like batting at strips of paper. I was playing with him Saturday evening. He just got tired and fell asleep with the paper on his head. LOL

We had a surprise Saturday night. My two nephews Corbet and Neil stopped over. We played board games, watched the football game and just hung out. Always great to see them!

My sis in law Kathy gave me this little Heart Smart recipe book at Christmas time. I tried the Spinach and Tortellini Soup yesterday for lunch. YUM it was good.

The recipe calls for 1 Tbsp margarine and two cloves of garlic that you saute. I omitted that and just used powdered garlic as I didn't want to fool around with the margarine.

6 cups fat free chicken broth
1 10 oz pkg frozen cheese tortellini
1 10 oz pkg frozen chopped spinach ( I used fresh in mine)
1 tsp dried basil
2 14 1/2 oz cans Italian tomatoes
1/2 Parmesan cheese

Melt margarine in a soup pot. Add garlic and saute until tender. Add broth and tortellini and bring to a boil. Stir in spinach, basil and tomatoes. Simmer at least 30 minutes. Sprinkle individual servings with Parmesan cheese. Yield 8 servings.

Super Clean and Simple

Can't get much cleaner than this. Pretty much just one layer except for the celery strip that was embossed with the square lattice folder. I stamped the tree from Thoughts and Prayers first with Chocolate Chip ink, then used the stamp-a-ma-jig and over stamped the image with celery ink. Gives it a little shadow effect.

Brrr did it ever get cold last night. Down to 14. We got a bit more snow yesterday also. Today its suppose to be sunny an the high of 26. I'm wishing for summer. Not even thinking Spring at this point I want to go right to summer.

Snow

Well we got about 6 inches of the white fluffy stuff. Still snowing. Hope it stops soon. After having all the days with temps in the 40's I got spoiled. Not use to having winter really be here and being cold!!! I didn't do any stamping yesterday. My studio was a wee bit nippy, so I spent most of the day on the middle floor. I crocheted a bit, and made cookies. At least the kitchen was nice and warm.

Clean and Simple Turquoise

I've been seeing turquoise colors everywhere lately. So who am I to resist, as I love turquoise. I also love white on white. Base card A-2, with three different sized white layers. Stamp set Thoughts and Prayers. Happy Birthday word is from Hostess set Happiest Birthday Wishes.

I'll be staying in today. We have a winter storm warning which started last night. Skip is working day shift today as the kids have off for a teachers in service day. Which is a good thing since its snowing. I bet they would have closed the schools today anyway. Brrrr its cold. Winter took its sweet time getting here since we have been having many 40 degree days, but I think that trend is over.

Card Tote and Matching Card

I used Faux Silk technique to make this card tote and matching card. I'll be posting a picture tutorial soon for the technique.

Stamp set used Delicate Doilies and Kindness Matters. The template for the card tote I got from my friend Kathy. Thanks Kat! This is one of the projects I'll be doing for Sundays Stamp Camp. Cardstock used: Crumb Cake, Elegant Eggplant, and Wisteria Wonder.

I stamped one of the doily images on Wisteria Wonder cardstock then punched with the butterfly punch. I drew the antenna with a marker and attached with a silver brad. I started to use crumb cake for the handles of the tote, but the decided a contrasting color would be better.

Keeping it Clean and things to be Careful of....

I'm still working on some clean and simple cards. This one features words from Thoughts and Prayers, and images from Inspired by Nature. Base card vanilla, layered with Chocolate Chip. Flower, and word stamped with chocolate ink, and edges sponged with More Mustard, and Cajun Craze ink. The stamped panel was attached using pop dots.

I got a "happy" package from my friend Connie yesterday. She made this thank you card. Love all the colorful flowers with the little rhinestones in the centers. Makes me dream of Spring.

While you are looking at this picture you may wonder about the blue bowl. It was my dads. He loved collecting glass. After his passing in 01 I got some of his collection. I like to use them to hold my stamping stuff, and sewing notions. I'm sure my daddy wouldn't approve of me doing this. He was of a mind that you should just look at the glass and not use it. Sorry dad....I love using them!

Simple Card

I have a stamp camp coming up this weekend so I'm working on clean and simple cards for that event. This card features Upsy Daisy stamp set. Words on card are from Thoughts and Prayers. Colors used: Crumb Cake, Basic Black, Vanilla, and Old Olive ink.

And keeping with my New Years resolution I've stamped the inside card as well.

I spent today cleaning and organizing our spare bedroom. I'm going to use it for my sewing/store room. Since we have a split level home and my stamping studio is in the lowest level it gets a might bit nippy at times so I wanted to have a room I could work in during the winter that would be warmer.

Dress for Easter

No post yesterday. Friday it was in the low 50's which is unheard of for us in January. I had to make the most of it and spent a good deal of the day outside. Felt great to be in the sun! It wasn't as warm yesterday, but still nice and sunny. Of course today we are back in the 30's. We have having yo-yo weather!

After going through my doll patterns I decided that this one will be for Easter. Just love the shell stitch on the dress, and the hat is just too darn cute!!! I had to drive out to Pat Catan's yesterday as I ran out of white thread to finish off the socks.

Here is a side view, you can see the little bloomers. The white bear I bought when I was out to get the thread. A baby can never have enough stuffed animals in her crib.

Barbie Doll

Sarah got me this Barbie for Christmas. What a pretty doll. Just love the dress, and love the fact that she doesn't have blond hair. Since I've been collecting Barbies (thank you Lisa) I try to only acquire the ones that are not blonds. Not that I have anything against that hair color, its because my hair is brown, and my mom always got me dolls that had brown hair when I was growing up.

I didn't get a chance to stamp or do any crafting yesterday. I spent the day cleaning. My house smells so clean! After the holidays it really needed a good cleaning and since the sun was shining yesterday and I was in the mood to clean I got it done. Hopefully today I'll get some crafting done.

New Dress for Lizzy, and 1000 Post

As I was posting this today I saw that this will be my 1000 post since I started blogging. WOW! Never thought I'd ever post that much! I'm looking forward to posting my next 1000.

I made this new outfit for my 5" doll yesterday. It crocheted up pretty quick as this pattern called for fingering yarn which is a bit bigger than the thread I used in the other outfits.

See the cute little bottoms and shoes.

My friend Connie's husband made these great cradles to put the doll babies in. It is so cute! Just love it.

Connie also made the little quilt and mattress for the cradle. Great work Connie! Seeing how I'm making the outfits for so many dolls now I've set another New Years goal for myself....to make 1 doll outfit per week. Now I don't expect I'll keep this one as that would be 52 outfits in one year and I don't think I'll need that many, but at least this way I'm hoping to be able to get a good start on my birthday and Christmas gifts this year.

As the Snow Falls

Hmmmm......"as the snow falls" sounds like a soap opera set in Colorado. Well it has snowed the past 48 hours. The kids in Cleveland were to go back to school yesterday, but they had to shut them down. As we are about 20 miles south of Cleveland we didn't get quite as much snow, but we had enough for Skip to have to go out and run the snow blower. I went out and shoveled the walkway by the side and front of the house. Brrr it was cold lower 20's and with wind chill in the single digits.

Skip was bundled up good in this pic of him with the snow blower. He didn't know I snapped this from the front door.

Since it was snowing I took some time to make this cute snowman tag. What I really like about Snow Much Fun stamp set is I can use it after Christmas is over. Great winter set. This is just simple masking. I used Lovely as a Tree in Garden Green, and the smaller trees were done with Earl Espresso. To punch it up I added some mica flakes to the snow hills at the bottom of the tag.

I don't think you'll be able to see it very well on the blog but I also made an overlay of acetate that was run through Northern Frost embossing folder. It is so cool! I used Tombo Liquid glue to attach the overlay as the glue dries clear. Click on the image to get a larger view.

Glue Dot Storage

Been taking some time to clear out some of my supply drawers. The boxes that that glue dots come in where taking up to much room, so I used a large SU plastic box to round up the rolls of dots.

I used a black marker to write on the cardboard ring with the type of glue dot. Seeing how I had a bit of room left I also included a roll of red line tape.

And just so the box wouldn't be boring....I stamped one of the Delicate Doilies with real red, so saffron, concord crush, and pear pizzazz on white cardstock and punched with 1 3/8 circle punch. These were layered on 2 1/2 circle punch using real red cardstock.

The case is taking up less room, so of course you know what that means....clean out the old and in with the new!

Hawk

We had a visitor in our backyard yesterday. What a great New Year's Day surprise! The hawk that I have been trying to get a picture of for months now finally perched on top of the bird house and sat for awhile. Isn't he just beautiful? Click on the photo to get a better look at him.

He stayed for about about 10 minutes. Hubby and me enjoyed watching him. Of course there were no ground critters to be found. All the squirrels must have been on high alert as they were no where to be seen.

The hawk's visit inspired me to make this card. Granted this is an eagle from the stamp set In Wilderness, but it was the only bird of prey stamp I had. Base card: Soft Suede, 1st layer Not Quite Navy, designer paper First Edition Specialty. Really happy about the designer paper. You can see the word "Flight" in the upper right hand side, but look down at the very bottom lower left....you will see the word Hawk. How cool that I cut the paper that way. Also above Hawk inside the cardstock strips you can see the word Habit. Its the little things in life that make me smile! Other things used: Big Shot, Designer Frame embossing folder, antique brad, Bird Builder punch, large oval punch, Bravo Burgundy as an accent color.

One of my New Year Resolutions: To complete the inside of my card after finishing the outside. So many times I take time and care to do up the outside, but forget all about carrying the artwork to the inside card.

Let me just say I've always been a sucker for drawers, and when I saw these paper mache ones at Pat Catan's this past week I had to get some. They had them as a 4 drawer unit, singles, or three stack. I decide to get one single and the 4 unit. First I painted them with DecoArt antique white paint. Next was to sponge on some Soft Suede ink. Love the antique look. For the drawers I added Beau Chateau designer paper. The 1 inch circle punch was great for making the finger hold opening at the top of each drawer.

Side view of the unit. I also used scallop circle, modern label, and 1 3/8 circle punches. Colors Marina Mist, Soft Suede, and Vanilla. I'm going to store tea bags in the 4 drawers, and Splenda in the single drawer. Stamp set used Morning Cup. This was a set that I got with my birthday SU order from hubby, but I was to busy making Christmas stuff that I didn't get around to using the set until yesterday.

Not planning to go out anywhere today. Maybe take a nap, watch some movies. We had a 4.0 earthquake near Youngstown OH yesterday afternoon. No damage. We didn't feel it where we live. Worries me that Ohio is getting earthquakes.

Welcome to 2012. Here is hoping it will be a better New Year than 2011.

I wanted to take a look back at the past year of my blog. I selected one of my favorite posts from each month, so if you have time take a tour of my year end review.

It is fitting I think that my last card of the the year 2011 is a thank you card. When we had snow earlier in the week I enjoyed watching the cardinals land on the bird feeder and the snow covered trees. They look so pretty against the white snow.

New Stuff

I got lots of new stuff for Christmas, and I had to get busy and start using supplies right away. I just adore the little elephant stamp! Too cute! My friend Kat has been getting me elephants for Christmas for the past several years now as I like my elephants. This little guy was made by Inky Antics. I stamped her on Going Gray cardstock (retired SU) with black ink. She is shaded with basic gray, melon mambo, and white watercolor crayons. Layers are melon mambo, basic gray. Ribbon lace punch, and Spellbinders large circle and scallop circle dies also used.

I also let Kat know that I really needed to get my cutter replaced. Just look at the pic and see how all the numbers have rubbed off. It was getting pretty darn hard to cut without being able to see the numbers clearly. She got me a new cutter, with pretty blue flowers. Too COOL! I'm going to cover the number side of the cutter with clear contact paper. That way the numbers won't rub off of this one. Big thanks for the great gifts Kat!

My tree and all the other Christmas decorations are down and put away for another year. Always sad to see them go, but it was time! Living room is nice, clean, and back to order. Next on my list of things to do is clean out the mess in the stamping studio. With all the frantic last minute projects the room is in a very sad state. Glad you can't see it!

White Christmas.......

Was really late this year! We had temps in the 40's all Christmas week, then this morning I woke up to all this pretty snow. Best thing about it was that I didn't have to go out to brush off the snow. Poor hubby did. He is working day shift this week, and is not very happy about it. This is a pic of the trees in the backyard. All snow covered. Love it! But I can do without the cold. Its 29 but with the wind chill it's in the teens.

Picture from my front door. Today I'll be taking down the tree. I normally wait till New Years Eve to take it down, but since its been up since the week before Thanksgiving I'm ready to have it gone.

We had a very nice Christmas. I was depressed a bit as this was the first Christmas without my mom. Miss you Mom!

Hopefully I'll have time to get back into stamping this week. Since Christmas is over I need to change gears and get out of holiday stamping mode.

Wonky Candy Trays

I have one word for these trays...WONKY! Such a great idea but I think it takes practice, and skill to get these to come out right. Although I do like them, and they smell great!

You line a cookie tray with parchment paper...which I didn't have so I used waxed paper which might have been why these came out wonky! Set up your design with peppermint candies (don't forget to unwrap them) Preheat oven to 350. Put the sheet in oven for 8 to 10 minutes. The candies will melt together.

See what I mean? Started out as a 5x5 piece square but the top spread a bit to much. After taking out of the oven you need to let them cool only takes about 5 minutes. Then peel off the paper.

I think they are cute to put little candies on.

Easy Gift Card Holder

I needed several gift card holders so I made this quick and easy one. Base is scallop circle die that was embossed with a snowflake folder. I cut two of these as half of one of the circles is used for the pocket. Stamp set Snow Much Fun. I know I've been using this set like crazy, but I really love it!

Other punches used: tab rounder, 2 1/2 circle, large scallop punch, 1 3/4 circle punch, modern label, and 1/2 circle punch.

Here you can see the back. I'll be hanging some of these on the tree for the family to find.

I made a large pot of chicken noodle soup today, and I also made some seasoned crackers to go with it. I normally only make these crackers during the holiday.

You'll need one bag of oysters crackers
Mix the following together: 1/3 cup canola oil, 1 tablespoon dill weed, 1 package Hidden Valley Ranch dressing. Pour over the crackers and mix well to coat. Lay down some paper towels and pour the crackers on them, allow to dry. YUM!

More Stocking Stuffers

The lip balm holders are actually going to be given to my hubby's sisters. I think I'll put one in Sarah's stocking.

Super simple to make. Outside is cut 5 3/4 x 3 1/2. The cardstock is then scored at 2 1/2 and at 3 1/4. After the scoring is finished you will need to fold at one of the scored lines and use scissors to make two cuts up to the second score line. Push the cuts to the inside to create a slot for the lip balm to slide into. I had to use a glue dot to secure the lip balm so it wouldn't slide out.

Inside was just stamped with the tree from Snow Much Fun. Outside piece uses Frostwood Lodge designer paper, and scallop circle punch along with 1 3/8 circle punch for the snow guy. Used the Crop-a-dile to punch a hole for the Cherry Cobbler ribbon.

Last Minute Stocking Stuffers

Working on last minute stocking stuffers in between making batches of cookies.

I picked up these little hand sanitizers at Big Lots for 33 cents. Couldn't pass that up. I wrapped them using Frostwood Lodge designer paper. The word stamp is from Occasions Alphabet stamp set. Love that set and so very happy that I earned it from SU. Gotta love free stamps. I wrapped a piece of bakers twine around the bottle. Quick and easy.

I'll be making lip balm holders today so check back tomorrow if you'd like to see them.

He's Mr. Green Christmas

He' Mr. Sun....He's Mr. Heat Blister, He's Mr. 101

Okay not going to type the words to the whole song but you get the idea. I made this for my friend Joe who really likes Heat Miser. Most of this topper is cut free hand. Not a lot of SU punches would work. I did find out something while trying to come up with a face shape.

I first thought to use the ornament punch but then decided it was to small and moved to the second largest oval on the Ovals die. That's when I discovered by cutting off the top of the ornament and the tip it could be used as a layer for the smallest oval in the Oval die.

I broke out some retired colors for this topper. Blush Blossom for the face and ears, Summer Sun for the hair. Riding Hood Red for hair, and collar. Owl Builder punch for eyes. Of course now that I have Heat Miser I need to make Cold Miser.

Making Cookies

Had a great afternoon on Sunday making cookies with Sarah. We had to have "Magic Bars". We only make them once a year at Christmas time. Here you see her making the graham crackers crumbs for the bottom layer.

Next its patting it in the pan.

Pouring sweetened condensed milk on top. Had to have hubby run to the store for me to get the milk as I picked up evaporated milk by mistake. Seems I do that every year. I think its my holiday tradition to get the wrong milk. LOL

All layered up with choco chips, and flaked coconut, ready for the oven.

We made a new bar cookie this year. White chocolate cranberry blondies. They turned out pretty good. Not to sweet even though you see the chocolate piping on top. The recipes only calls for 1/2 cup brown sugar.

I still have a few more batches of cookies to make today. Didn't have time to get them all done yesterday.

Just a final thought........

May all your Christmas cookies come turn out.....without any burnt edges!

Christmas Mice

Had to have some little mice for the tree. Aren't they cute? Very easy to make. You will need the Ovals die, Heart Trio punch, 1/2 circle punch and Owl Builder punch.

Use the largest of the ovals from the oval die for the body. The second largest oval will need to be cut into a point to form the mouse nose. Two of the medium hearts for the ears, circles from the owl punch for the eyes.

Here you can see the underside of the mouse. The candy cane is slid in through the 1/2 hole on the top and secured to the underside by using glue dots. Strands of bakers twine, or white twine used to make the whiskers.

The second largest oval will need to be cut into a point you can see by this photo how it will look after it is cut. This will be glued to the underside of the mouse to form the point for the nose.

SU Stars Blog Hop

Welcome to SU Stars Holiday and Winter Home Decor Blog Hop!

I made this bulge wreath for my hubby to put in his area at work. Just a little holiday decoration that was more on the masculine side.

I started out by cutting 2 1/2 squares of designer paper. I used Frostwood Lodge paper from the Holiday mini. You need a total of 14 pieces of 2 1/2 squares.
For the base of the wreath I used white cardstock cut using the scallop circle Sizzix die. After cutting the squares I ran them over the edge of my craft table to break the fibers a bit. Makes it much easier to roll the squares into the bulge shape. After rolling I glued them together using a low temp glue gun.

Here you can see how the completed bugles were glued around the scallop circle base. For the center of the wreath I used Cherry Cobbler punched with 2 1/2 circle punch. Stamped the deer from Nature Silhouettes in Early Espresso, and used simple masking to add the tree from Lovely as a Tree in Garden Green. Word "Merry" is from Tiny Tags, and inked with Cherry Cobbler. I added a bow using Early Espresso quilted satin ribbon, and gold antique brad. Hanger was glued to top back of wreath also using the quilted ribbon.

Finished size of this wreath is about 7 x 7.

Torn Fabric Bookmark

This is a very quick and easy gift idea for the book reader in the family. I started out by tearing Deck the Halls fabric into about a 1 3/4 inch strip. Strip was then cut to be 20" long. I raided my elastic pony tail holders and found a brown one. Fold up 1/2 inch of one end of the fabric strip,and insert the elastic. Use a running stitch across to hold the band in place. Repeat for other end of the strip.

The elastic will allow the bookmark to fit around all sizes of books. Don't sew? You could use fabric glue to hold the band in place.

I used Easy Events to stamp the clock image. Then it was water colored. I thought about printing off the words "time to read", but sometimes I really would rather personalize my projects and use a marker to write what I want to say.

It was warm yesterday so I did my walking outside instead of on the treadmill. Just about got blown away! The wind was really whipping around. Can't complain 53 degrees is great to have in the middle of December.

Little Snow Baby

My little 5" baby needed a new outfit for the holidays. I just love this snowman costume. How cute!!!! I almost think that the hat is a bit to big for the baby's head, but I then I think that it just adds to the charm.

This one didn't take me as long as some of the other outfits. The white is easier to work with, because its bright I can see the thread better. The black hat was another story. I dislike working with black thread the most.

I think I might make a batch of cookies today. Some of my friends are having a cookie exchange party today. Wish I could attend but its in TX. So I'll make a batch of cookies and dream I'm in Texas.

Look What I Got......

My dear friend Marianne sent me this gorgeous paper bag scrapbook. OMG it is just so wonderful. The colors are perfect, and the papers are so me. The binding is done with gold duck tape, how clever!

Lots of pages for me to add photos, journaling, and keepsakes.

I like the little tags, and the inserts that slide into the bags.

Lots of little embellishments just make this book so special!

And to top it all off she gave me a feather pen, made from one of her bird's feathers! How cool is that! Marianne you really just made my day. You did such a wonderful job putting this book together. Thanks for the time and care you put into it. Just love it!

Hostess Gifts

I'm thinking about giving these for hostess gifts. You know me I try to recycle when I can so I've been saving the plastic inserts from the ribbon rolls from SU. I knew I'd be able to use them for something. I wrapped about 4 yards of ribbon onto the roll then used linen thread around the ribbon to hold the tail in place. For the top and bottom I used matching cardstock and the scallop circle punch. For the layer I used 1 3/8 circle punch. Stamp sets used Snow Much Fun done in Baja Breeze, and Gift Givers done in Cherry Cobbler.

I took Sarah to the Hospital yesterday. She got a nice purple cast put on. She didn't want me taking any pictures of her....but I'm sure I'll be able to get a pic around Christmas. Her boyfriend Jason is an artist, and he is going to airbrush something on. Can't wait to see that. He does great work.

Going to have another sunny day here and in the mid 40's. I'll take it!!!! Normally its colder by this time of the year.

Tags Again

Well the more I wrap the more I'm finding I have to make more tags to go with the wrapping paper. For Sarah I'm using purple, silver, and black with snowmen. After checking the paper up to Concord Crush cardstock I found it was the perfect match.

I used 1 3/4 circle for the head, and 2 1/2 circle for the body. The body I ran through petals a plenty embossing folded, and I roughed up the edges of each one to give it more texture. Nose is Lavender Lace cardstock (retired SU). For the eyes I used the 5mm half round beads that I used on the fabric bear. Scarf is Concord Crush ribbon (thanks again Kat for giving me that!).
Other punches uses: Word Window (hat brim, to/from), Trio flower (hat and tag).
Silver glitter paper, Top Note die, snowflake embossing folder (Sizzix), mini silver brads.

Close up of tag. I punched a hole in the top of the tag then put the silver curling ribbon through. I'm happy with it. Hope Sarah likes it

Shopping and Wrapping

Skip and I went out and did some Christmas shopping yesterday. Just hit a few stores. Found some stuff for Sarah and Jason. Can't post what as I know my dear daughter reads my blog.....(Hi Sarah)

We went out to eat, then home to wrap. Didn't do much of anything else for the day. Wasn't feeling well late in the day and decided it was best to turn in early.

I did get to the post office early yesterday morning. Our post office is normally packed on Saturday morning and with Christmas its worse, but I was surprise to find that at 9 am there were only a few people there. Makes me wonder if people are not mailing out packages for the holidays as in years past. Most likely not sending as many Christmas cards as well. Makes me sad....I use to live for letters from friends. I guess writing letters is a dieing art form.

Looking forward to getting some stuff done in the studio today. I still need to run the vacuum as I got mica flakes all over the floor when I was making tags the other day. Oh the trials of crafting!

We Had Some Snow

I woke up yesterday and saw snow out my window. Not much, it snowed about an inch, and brrr was it ever cold. Good news the weatherman said next week we are going to be in the 40's which is great for this time of the year in Ohio. I had to feed the animals outside. Here is the fat squirrel grabbing some peanuts. He was fighting off the blue jays. The jays were actually flying down on the deck and picking up the un-shelled nuts. Didn't think they would do that.

Here are some Christmas cards we have received this season. I have some of them displayed on my hutch. Lisa I'll be hanging the three wise men card over my door for the year. Lisa once told me that if you receive a three wise men card you should hang it over your door all year so you will have a prosperous new year.

Marianne....Skip looked at your card and made this statement......Funny to have someone in MI send a Winter Greetings card...he said someone from FL should send that. I loved the card. Snowflake Tag

I made this very simple gift tag yesterday. I've been busy with getting some crocheting done that I haven't had much time to stamp.

Snowflake die #2 cut with Shimmery White cardstock. One strip 10 x 1 1/4 of Frostwood Lodge designer paper. This was scored every 1/4 inch then punched using the scallop border punch. Folded then glued together with sticky strip to form circle then glued to 3/4 circle of Cherry Cobbler cardstock to form the rosette. Snowman tag from Tags til Christmas. I cut the tag a bit smaller than its size by using the 1 3/8 circle punch. To complete I added some micro flakes. I've found for me the best way to adhere these to cardstock is Tobmo Liquid glue. Love that stuff!!!

Cold

Brrr it was cold last night. Went down into the 20's. We also got a bit of snow yesterday, but it didn't stick. Not ready for winter, but I guess I have no choice but to get through it! Bears have the right idea....just go to sleep till it gets warmer, but I guess my friends and readers would miss my blog posts....so for all of you I'll try to stay awake!

I stamped the three wise men from Come to Bethlehem on a white paper doily. Then layered that on Crumb Cake Top Note die. Background is Marina Mist and the stamp used on that is retired Holiday Print. Cherry Cobbler ribbon, word, and star with rhinestone finishes off this card.

Spoke to Sarah yesterday she is doing okay, and told me her ankle wasn't hurting as much. I know she must be going crazy hanging around the house all day when she is use to the go, go, go lifestyle. She is working on cleaning the house, and I told her to pace herself and not put any weight on the ankle. She assures me that she is being careful.

Recycled Box

I love how this little box turned out. Would you believe that this is built around the cardboard circle from a mini glue dot roll? Well it is. The top and the bottom of the box are made with designer paper and Espresso cardstock. I glued the designer paper and cardstock together using Tombo liquid glue. The circles for top and bottom are 2 3/4 inch. The circle for the top is scored at 1 1/4 inch to allow the lid to open.

Roses at the center are so easy to make. I first punched a circle in Cherry Cobbler cardstock using 1 1/4 circle punch, then I used the scallop circle punch over the hole and punched again. I cut the scallop circle ring open then curled it around my paper piercer tool. After it was curled it was glued to a 1/2 circle of Cherry Cobbler cardstock. I'll try to get some pictures posted of this so you can see how it is done.

To keep the box closed I used linen thread that is looped around the flower/brad on top of the lid.

Sticker Makers

After crafting with my nieces in November they fell in love with my Xyron sticker maker, so I had to get each of them one for Christmas. I'm a bit jealous as they are getting cool ones with tiger stripes. Mine is a plain. Oh well.

I spent most of the day with Sarah. She has a boo-boo.....she took a tumble and fractured her ankle. We spent the day at the hospital. It's not a bad break. She'll have to wear a cast for 6 weeks. My poor baby.

Hopefully I'll get some crafting done today. Tick, Tick, Tick....goes the clock...Christmas is right around the corner and as always I'm not ready!!!

Tiny Bear

Is this not the cutest little thing? I just had a blast stitching up this little bear yesterday. Wanted know how I made her?

You will need the large scallop circle die, and scallop circle #2 die. Fabric of course. This one was made using Deck the Halls. The body is one fabric scallop circle cut with the Big Shot and scallop circle die, head is cut from the largest scallop circle from the scallop circle# 2 die, then you will also need 6 circles cut from the smallest scallop circle on the scallop circle #2 die.

Each cut scallop circle will then need to be gathered using needle thread and a running gathering stitch. Circles are then filled with polyester fiberfill and closed. I used hot glue to attach the circles together. Before attaching the feet I punched two small hearts from the heart trio punch using Cherry Cobbler cardstock. I stitched one to each paw. If you look at the head you will also see that I didn't stuff the ears. I did gather them like the other parts, but I flattened them out after the gathering was finished then glued them on.

Face is a 3/4 circle cut from cream felt and hand stitched in place. Straight stitch used to make the mouth lines. Tiny little black buttons used for the eyes, and a half round 5mm bead used for the mouth. After all that was done it was fun to tie on a cherry cobbler seam binding bow, (did you see that I even added a half pearl to the center of the bow),and lace ribbon for the bear's ear.

Snowbuddy

Just a simple card share today. Base card is Early Espresso, Very Vanilla, and Cherry Cobbler layers. Snowman colored with blender pen using Cherry Cobbler, and Crumb Cake ink. Snow balls punched with 1/4 circle punch with silver glitter paper. I cut pop dots into four pieces and then used them on the snowballs to make them pop. Quilted Espresso ribbon also used.

Didn't do a lot yesterday. Spent some more time crocheting doll clothes, made a pot of chili, and went clothes shopping with hubby. He needed flannel shirts.

Hoping it will be sunny again today. Yesterday it was in the mid 40's which is very comfortable for this time of year.

All About Blue Blog Hop

I decided to make a snowflake wreath using Snowflake 2 die. Cardstock, Bashful Blue, Night of Navy, and Temping Turquoise. Base for the wreath was made with the cardboard that comes in the designer paper packs. I traced a dinner plate, then I traced a lunch plate for the center of the wreath. Since the cardboard is white I added color using Night of Navy ink and a brayer. Some of the flakes are attached using pop dots, others are attached using glue dots. Doily punch used for the center piece, and on the flakes. Love the look with the doily punch and the glitter silver paper. Lollies were made using 1 1/4 inch by 12 inch strips of white cardstock. Strips were scored at 1/2 intervals using Simply Scored tool, then the strip was turned over on the score tool and scored again at 1/4 intervals. Next step was to punch the edge of the scored strip using eyelet border punch. After that was done the strip was accordion folded, ends glued together and pressed down to form a circle. Pretty simple to do but a bit time consuming. Blossom Bouquet triple layer punch used for the centers of the lollies. Pennant die was used for the inside decoration. Snow Much Fun snowman was stamped on white with basic black and colored with matching markers. Snowflake at the bottom was attached using a jump ring.

Little Boy Blue

Isn't he just soooooo cute!!! Pain in the butt to make, but worth the effort. Love the little baseball cap. Of course if you read my post yesterday about the button.....I had to go digging again for small matching buttons for his overalls. Gotta love the excitement in my my studio. LOL

Back view. The pattern didn't say to cross the straps in the back, but I liked that look so I'm going with it. The little blue circle on top of the hat was made with a 10 inch hook....and let me tell you its so small I can't even see the hook at the end of it, but I know it was there. Can't tell you how many times I had to take the stitch out as I split the thread while trying to make a single crochet stitch.

He has a little white onesie under the overalls. Just darling!!!!

My Kingdom for a Cream Color Button

I know I'm silly, and maybe I wouldn't offer an entire kingdom for a button, but just once I'd really like to be able to have on hand what I need. I have a million and one buttons but yesterday morning when I was on the search for a cream color one I wasn't finding one. After dumping out my button drawer....which is very large and packed with buttons I only found the one that I used on Faith's notepad holder that I made her for Christmas. Okay enough of my ranting.....

This vintage looking holder was made to hold a jr. legal pad and pen. I'm happy how it turned out. Base is Crumb Cake. Layers Chocolate Chip and designer paper from the holiday mini. Pines and Poinsettias stamp set, and the little flower that is cut from Red cardstock is from Fifth Avenue Floral. I think when I make more of these which I plan to this month I'm going to head to Staples and get white jr. legal pads. I picked up the yellow ones at the dollar store.

On the inside I used another piece of designer paper across the top of the pad.

I woke up to snow yesterday morning. We didn't get much just a dusting, and not enough to stick to the roads. It was so pretty to watch the flakes come down. Very peaceful.

Can you believe its December!!!!!! Christmas is just a few short weeks away.

Run that by me Again

I liked the tag I made so much from yesterdays post that I had to make more using a different color pallet. This one uses Marina Mist, Pink Pirouette, Soft Suede, and vanilla cardstock. Fabric is from Beau Chateau. This tag is so Victorian!

I have a tip for you all....When punching out smaller pieces a good way to keep them from getting lost (been there done that) I put them on the sticky side of post it notes. Keeps them safe, and makes it so much easier to pick them up when you are ready to assemble your project.

Spent a part of yesterday going through my many cards. I plan to give some to my mom in law for Christmas. Some of them are from card swaps I was in which only had the card fronts so those needed to be made into full size cards. Others needed a lighter color on the inside of the card, and still more needed some word stamps. All in all it was a very productive day.

My SU order comes today. YAY! Love happy mail. The Brown guy just doesn't know how happy he makes me!!!!!! If he only knew. SHHHHH don't tell hubby.

Smiling Snowman Tag

Who couldn't smile at this happy snowman? Tag is from Two Tags die cut with Crumb Cake. Tab Rounder punch in Early Espresso, snowman punched on white with 1 3/4 circle punch, eyes and cheeks made with owl builder punch, carrot was cut free hand with Pumpkin Pie cardstock. Fabric from Holiday mini, word stamp from Come to Bethlehem. Other things used, Cherry Cobbler seam binding, white gel pen, mini glue dots, button, Cherry Cobbler marker.

Yesterday I spent some time putting together a box that I'll be mailing out of state. Just waiting for one more gift to arrive on Wednesday then I'll be able to mail it out on Thursday. Did some housework, and got on the treadmill. Gotta work off that Thanksgiving fest!

Cookie Poem

This is a cookie poem to use for gifting a cookie cutter. Pretty cute poem, I don't remember where I got this. I did find out there are other poems out there for cookies. If you do a search using cookie poem as the key words you will find the other ones. I used the little ginger bread man from Got Treats stamp set. Punched it out with scallop punch and added a bakers twine bow.

I've been busy wrapping up gifts, and using all the turkey leftovers. Which by the way I did. Used the last of it yesterday to make turkey noodle soup. Sarah came over as she knew I'd be making it. It was nice just having the four of us for dinner. We talked, and played some old Super Nintendo games. Me and Sarah went out and did some shopping. So even though it rained most of the day it was a good day!

Stocking Horse

I really like using the stocking builder punch to make hobby horses. This little guy is too cute! Stitched Stocking stamp used and inked with Cherry Cobbler. I ran a strip of sticky tape to the back of the stocking and looped bakers twine and pressed down in the adhesive as I went. Linen thread created the bridle.

It is very simple to created the "V" shape in the word banner by putting an end of the cardstock in the corner of the 1 inch square punch. I like easy!

Turkey out of the oven and ready to eat. It was so good!!!!

Sarah wanted brownies for her birthday instead of cake so I made her two pans. This one has 29 candles on it. Next year I told her no 30 candles on her cake...She is 29 and holding....just like me!

Folded Turkey Napkin

I visited mychinet.com and got the directions to fold the napkins into turkeys. How cute! I decided they needed a bit of color so I stamped the turkey from Gift Givers in basic black on crumb cake cardstock, then colored them in with markers. Used bakers twine to tie the tag on. I'm going to ask each of our guests to remove the tag an on the back write one thing they are truly thankful for. At the end of dinner I'll ask them to read what they wrote if they would like to.

I was busy cleaning house yesterday. Just about finished, but today I'll be baking and prepping for dinner. Don't you just love all the hustle and bustle of the holidays? I know I sure do! After Thanksgiving I'll be busy wrapping gifts that need to be sent out of town. Christmas cards have been finished I'll need to pop them in the mail.

I want to wish my wonderful, beautiful, and talented daughter a BIG HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Hope all your wishes come true Sarah. She is working a few hours today at Curves, so I won't be seeing her today. We are going to celebrate her birthday on Thanksgiving. She'll be 29......and holding!

Received this great Thanksgiving card from Kat on Saturday. Love Day of Gratitude stamp set. That stamp set is still on my wish list....ah someday.

Didn't get to do any stamping yesterday. Sarah came over and we had to take all the decorations off the Barbie tree because I was not really happy with it. I thought I would be happy with the new pink lights I picked up on Sunday, but then decided they were to big for the tree. So Sarah and I went shopping around for more lights. Bless her heart for putting up with her mom and the Barbie tree. It was funny at the store when I was checking out with my new pink and white lights. A guy in line asked me about the pink lights, and I told him it was for a Barbie tree, then he replies that will be nice for your grand daughter. I told him it was for my tree. You should have seen the look I got.

I'm spending much of the day cleaning house. I think I'll make the pumpkin, and zucchini bread today....if I have the energy.

Pennant Punch Tree Tag

I love how this gift tag turned out. Base is Top Note die in Chocolate Chip. Layer is left over fabric I had from the gift box SU gave me. You can still get the fabric its in the Holiday Mini, Holly Berry Bouquet #124065. I frayed the edges of the fabric with my fingers. Tree is layered on Shimmery white cardstock. The tree was made with Wild Wasabi. I punched the scallop pennant from the Pennant punch three times. These were then run through the Big Shot with Petals a Plenty embossing folder. Next I scored each tree in the center and glued them together at the score lines then glued to the white layer. Word is from Four the Holidays which was also stamped on Shimmery white.

I feed our squirrels by leaving peanuts or other treats on the back step at the kitchen sliding glass door. Here you see one of them enjoying his snack.

And after eating them all....he always comes back and knocks on the door for more. Too cute!!!

I got the Barbie Christmas tree put up yesterday. Of course wouldn't you know it the pink strand of lights went out. So me and Skip went on the hunt for more pink lights. I finally found some at Big Lots. Not like the ones I had but they worked. I'll post pics of the tree in a few days.

Sarah is coming over later today for lunch. After that I'll be cleaning the house and getting ready to start the holiday baking.

Just very simple card share today. Base card Not Quite Navy. White layer punched with snowflake punch. I added another punch on top of that using silver glitter paper. If you don't own Four the Holidays stamp set I would recommend it. Four very nice word stamps to use on Christmas cards. I've been reaching for it a lot during the past month.

We went to the Medina Candlelight walk last night. I of course forgot to take my camera. Bummer! The streets of downtown Medina were so pretty. They had gallon water jugs that were weighted down with sand and each one had a candle lit inside. The real tree in the gazebo at the center of the town was all decorated in red and gold. The band they had playing was really good. All the little shops were open it was just a fun night for walking. Thank goodness it wasn't raining and the temps were in the upper 40's so it was a perfect night!

I decided to create all my projects with Pines & Poinsettias, and matching designer paper Holly Berry Bouquet. Still time to purchase these from the Holiday mini.

First up is a simple origami gift box. I started with 8x8 designer paper for the bottom of the box, and used 8 1/4 x 8 1/4 designer paper for the lid. Next I used the Lace Ribbon punch with Real Red cardstock. Punched two strips and wrapped around the box. Mini glue dots used to hold the bands together. They will easily slip off to open the box. For the poinsettia flower I used the 5 petal flower punch with Whisper White cardstock. Sponged edges with So Saffron then added a 3/4 circle to center with a pop dot. Merry from Tiny Tags.

This is a "perfect" bag. These bags where shown at 2008 SU convention. You can make them in different sizes. This one uses two pieces of 8x5 designer paper. Tags til Christmas used for tag.

I really like how this little gift box turned out. I used Top Note die for the front and back, and used Box 2 die for the center. Large scallop punch, 1 3/8, and 1 1/4 circle punch for the center. I did snip off just a bit of the bottom of the Crumb Cake base so the box would stand flat.

I tied bakers twine around the Real Red box before using sticky strip to attach it to the box. This will make it easy to open the box so the recipient doesn't have to tear the box apart to get the gift open.

More Tag Ideas

I'm still working on some gift tags. These feature Festive Fun stamp set. Just love how they crafted "Jolly" fun to color. Here I used basic colors, Red, Olive, Crumb Cake, Vanilla, and Basic Black. Also used Snow Much Fun, Tags til Christmas sets. I think the one with Snow Much Fun snowman the best.

I'll be going to take mom-in-law to the hospital this afternoon. She has to have a test done. Test is going to take 90 minutes so I'll be bringing along my crochet stuff to work on. Great way to past the time and I'll get some more of it finished.

It snowed yesterday, but didn't stick. Got pretty cold last night. I do have a complaint. My favorite oldies radio station started playing Christmas music yesterday and will continue to do so till the 25th of December. Now I love Christmas, but this is to much for me to take. Way to early for holiday tunes.

Non Traditional Colors

I used some non-traditional colors to create this card. So Saffron for the base, layer of Chocolate Chip that was run through petals a plenty folder, and strip of Holly berry Bouquet designer paper that was run through Tasteful Trims die. Ribbon is dotted Chocolate Chip. Stamp set Four the Holidays, and Tags til Christmas.

My crazy mixed up Christmas cactus started to bloom on Halloween. It is really very pretty. I think next year I'll try to keep it in the dark for a bit and try to get it to bloom during December. It still has a ton of blooms on it so it will still look pretty next week for Thanksgiving.

Time to Make Tags

I spent the better part of yesterday with my mom-in-law Kate. Love spending time with her. She is such a wonderful person. Took her to her doctor appointment. Then she took me to a early dinner. Next we did a bit of shopping. She got me a new turkey platter. I broke the one my mom gave me last year. It slipped right out of my hand while I was drying it.

I didn't do to much else yesterday. I played around with a few tag ideas. I need to start thinking about how I'm wrapped gifts this year. Can't believe turkey day is next week! Time is flying by. Snowman was stamped on crumb cake with basic black ink. Colored in with white, and basic gray watercolor crayons. Hat and scarf colored with Marina Mist, and Cajun Craze markers.

After taking 54 stamps sets off my shelves to sell I was able to open up one shelve to hold my completed cards. Thank goodness I created some more space. Was getting to the point of not being able to turn around in my studio. Guess I'll just have to stop buying stamping supplies.......NOT!!!!

Peace on Earth Snowy Night

I must have been in some type of a mood yesterday when I made this card. Just don' know what I was thinking. Lots going on and I think its to busy. Used two different embossing folders, Dasher, and Four the Holidays stamps. Moon was made by masking and white craft ink. Little tiny flakes made by dotting on moonlight Smooch ink. Base card Not Quite Navy.

We went to the mall yesterday after going out to an early dinner. It was a good day for me as Skip bought me a Coach bag. I'll post a picture when I pick it up. Macys was having a 25% off sale on the bags but it doesn't start till November 30, so he paid for the bag and reserved it, but I have to wait till the end of the month. Maybe hubby got in the Christmas spirit early this year...I mean after all the Mall was all deck out for the holidays already. I couldn't believe all the stores and the midway of the mall were all finished. They even have Santa's train up and running. Oh well its just around the corner! I'm going to put up the Barbie tree this week so who am I to judge?

Bird Builder Flower

No time to stamp yesterday. It was warm outside...big surprise too since it snowed the day before. Anyway we got out and enjoyed the sunshine. Rode the bikes, did some yard work, and later pulled out the telescope and did some star gazing.

Kat sent me this beautiful card. Flower is made by using the Bird Builder punch. Very nice Kat! I see she also dyed the pearls to match the card.

Holly Jolly Snowman

Isn't he just the cutest thing? Love him! So simple to make. Base card Whisper White, hat basic black, scarf Real Red. Nose pumpkin pie sponged with cajun craze. Eyes and mouth made with owl builder punch. Holly and berries made with Stocking Accents die. The hat, hat brim, scarf, and nose were all cut free hand. Used silver glitter paper to highlight the berries, and white gel pen for the stitching lines.

Skip had to pick up his prescription sunglasses yesterday so I tagged along for the ride. Which led us to Valley City. They have this cool Depot with a train on display.

Of course yesterday also was the first day that it snowed this season. You can see the snow in these pictures. Wasn't cold enough for the snow to stick. It melted as it hit the ground.

And here is my man sporting his new Harley Davidson sunglasses. Now he says he wants to get a bike.

Christmas Lodge

Happy 11/11/11

I was going to go see the Immortals today, but Skip wants to go to so I'll have to wait till Saturday. There isn't an early enough showing for us to see and still have time for him to get to work.

Stamp set used for card is Christmas Lodge. Love this set! So natural. Base card Old Olive. Layers, Real Red, Very Vanilla, and Chocolate Chip. Vanilla seam binding, pearls, and antique brad also used. Other stamps: Sincere Salutations, and Christmas Collage background stamp.

November is just whirling by....soon it will be Christmas. I'm in the mood to put up my tree, but I'm holding back as I know I'll get the look from hubby. I may put up the smaller Barbie tree, then put the big tree up after Thanksgiving dinner is over. Well at least get it started.

Eat Beef

This long tall turkey wants you to eat beef for Thanksgiving this year. Couldn't resist the tag. I typed it up on the computer. Punches used for Tom:

Body, 1 3/4 circle, head, 1 3/8 circle, feathers large scallop, hat 1 inch square and word window punch, eyes, owl builder, feet, boho punch. Beak was free hand triangle.
Cardstock: Riding Hood Red, Old Olive, Chocolate Chip. More Mustard, black, designer paper.

Speaking of turkey (no I'm not having beef) I picked up a 16 1/4 pound one. I'm having 9 people for Thanksgiving dinner which should be enough for everyone and lots of leftovers. I'd rather have the leftovers than the turkey dinner. I know I'm strange. But there are so many things you can do with leftover turkey.

Sorry no post today. I was pretty busy with Sarah on Tuesday, then the day just got away from me. I had planned to do some stamping and update the blog with some artwork, but crocheting got in the way. With Christmas coming up soon I need to get busy and get some gifts made.

We had a bit of a wind storm earlier this evening. It was rattling the windows along the backside of the house. Got some more rain as well.

some things my friend Kat has been doing. Isn't this Cat in the Hat ornament just darling!!!! She painted the light bulb and painted the face. The hat was made by Lisa and Connie. These were made for the church craft sale.

I received this card from Kat a few days ago. I just love the Bliss stamp set. Love these colors also Cherry Cobbler, Very Vanilla, and Crumb Cake. Beautiful!

Didn't do any stamping yesterday. I was busy with making other Christmas gifts.
I did get to talk to Sarah she is coming over around noon today for lunch. She is also going to take pics of some retired stamp sets I'm selling. She'll be listing them on E-Bay. I have 54 to sell. WOW!!!! Didn't know I was ready to part with so many of them...but I am....moving on.

Hot Chocolate with Marshmallows Anyone?

We made these hot chocolate holders at stamp camp. Sorry ladies as I didn't get the "marshmallows" to work before you did your projects. Stamp set Snow Much Fun.

Couldn't make camp? Want to make one? Here are the measurements.

Cut cardstock 9 x 5. Score this piece at 2 6/8 and again at 6 3/8. Fold on the score lines, overlap ends and glue in place. Punch hole though all layers at top of cardstock. Thread length of ribbon through the hole, push hot cocoa packet down through the holder then tie ribbon bow at top. You can pull the ribbon to get the packet out.

One of the wreaths I used only marshmallows, on the other I used a combo of mallows and sixlets candy. Cello bag is formed into circle the adhered end to end with glue dot. Wrap ribbon around center and tie in bow. Attach the completed wreath to the holder using glue dots.

Snowbuddy likes you.....

...as much as me! I made this cute little tea bag holder. Perfect for a teacher, or stocking stuffer. Marina Mist cardstock cut 8 x 3 5/8, then scored at 1 3/4 and at 4 7/8. I stamped the snowman in black on the front.

This shows the inside pocket that holds one tea bag.

Can you tell I've caught the "Holiday" bug with all these projects I've been posting?

Reindeer Cello Topper

So it would seem that once I got started on the cello bag toppers....I can't stop!!! I have one more to share. How do you like little Rudolph? This one uses Stocking punch, snowflake, owl builder, and large scallop. Stamp set Stitched Stocking, and Tiny Tags. Nose red glitter paper, scallop Marina Mist, Reindeer Crumb Cake, antlers Early Espresso. Also used velvet ribbon along the bottom of the deer. Bakers twine makes the deer's harness. I think he is just adorable!!!!

I also wanted to share a different look for the Snow lady topper. This one uses a bit of victoria ribbon and silver brad.

Little Acorn

Want can I say.....lately I've been into making punch art. This cute little guy uses three punches, Ornament,oval, and owl builder. Face is Crumb Cake, top is Chocolate Chip. Eyes, and mouth were drawn with black marker. Sponge dauber and Pretty in Pink used for cheeks. Stamp sets, Autumn Days, and Grateful Greetings. Base card Cajun Craze, Vanilla layer, acorn on More Mustard. White gel pen used for highlights.

Inside of card is 2 1/2 vanilla circle, and small scallop circle punch.

Snow Lady Punch Art

Well after making the snowman cello topper I had to revisit it and make a snow lady. Isn't she too cute? I used the large scallop circle punch for the hat. For the dress I cut Holly Berry Bouquet designer paper with the scallop circle Big Shot die. Then cut that to fit on the 2 1/2 white circle that I punched for her lower half. Other punches used snowflake for arms, flower from the bitty shapes punch pack. White gel pen for the hat, and rhinestones in the flower centers. Modern Label punch in Cherry Cobbler for the hat tie.

Thanks to Kat for telling me about York Pieces. These come in blue and white in the bag, but I just used the white ones to fill the cello bag. I'll keep the blue ones for another project, or I might munch on some of them:)

Nesting Doll

Switching gears from Holiday cards to make this cute little nesting doll card. She is so easy and you just need a few punches. Owl punch to make scarf, eyes, and cheeks, large oval punch for body, and 1 inch circle punch to make head, and hair. The little heart mouth I colored with a marker. Designer paper Beau Chateau a new fav of mine! Other cardstock colors: Marina Mist, Soft Suede, Vanilla.

Skip and I went to the shooting range on Sunday. He bought a new "toy" at the gun show the week before and wanted to try it out. All I can say is it is loud!! Good thing we had the ear sets on.

Well he didn't hit dead center of the target, but you can see by his face he was happy with how he did. No I didn't shoot the gun. Not my thing.

Snow Much Fun in Blue and Red

This is a card we will be making at Stamp Camp this Saturday. Just a very simple card, but the little snowman is so cute!

Base card Riding Hood Red, Very Vanilla layer that was embossed with Petals a Plenty folder, Baja Breeze that was punched with X-Large Oval punch. Stamps: Snow Much Fun, and Doily Background. I used the oval punch out from Baja Breeze cardstock for the words on this card.

I caught this picture of our cat Burbank on Sunday. He was peering in from outside the sliding glass door. He is such a pretty cat. Love him!

Happy Halloween!

Hope everyone is looking forward to some Tricks and Treats tonight. I'll be giving out some treats. Hope I don't run out of candy.

I made the witch hat using the Petal Cone die. After cutting the cardstock I inked the Doily background stamp with VersaMark and stamped the hat. Then I embossed with clear powder. Band of the hat is Frightful designer paper.

I wish I still had some black Velcro dots, but I only had white. At any rate I used the Velcro to hold the hat closed, as I didn't want the hat to be ripped while getting the candy out. I'm so clever. LOL

We had frost last night. See my car's windows had ice on them. GOOD GRIEF...not ready for this!!!!!

Snowmen Ornaments

I had fun making these little ornaments yesterday. I got the idea from Becky Roberts. I changed them up just a bit. We will be making these at a upcoming stamp camp.
Colors used: Cajun Craze, Pear Pizzazz, Marina Mist, Whisper White. Basic Grey watercolor wonder crayon used for the shading. Markers used to color the rest.

(Sorry Kat....you may have to break down and buy the doily punch)

It was sunny yesterday even though it was colder. Only made it to 52, but I still got out and rode the bike around. Just had to bundle up a bit more. Not to bad in the sun, but it was a bit nippy in the shade!
