Vintage?

I was recently in a few swaps on the VC Rockers group, and I wanted to share some of the projects. Matchbox Dresser, and Flower Milk carton. Items were prepped but mailed un-assembled. I took some time yesterday afternoon to put them together.



The flower on top of the dresser was made the same way I made the flowers for the watering can I posted on Saturday. Only this one was made with the scallop circle punch. After it was finished I sprayed it with Smooch Spritz.



I'll start off by saying that overall I trust the PO to deliver my mail unharmed. But sometimes things happen. Kat sent me this card and I had to show you the condition it arrived in. Looks like it was dropped in the mud, dried then run though the machine. When I showed it to Skip he said that the mail didn't damage the card.....Kat was just doing some antiquing. Had to stop and laugh at that remark. What do you think Kat? It does look sort of....whats the word......"VINTAGE"



Love the card Kat. I know this is just a once in a while mishap by the PO. Don't stop sending those cards my way!

More Pictures of DC

Didn't have time to stamp yesterday so I'm posting a few more pictures of the DC trip. On the last night there we found this cool BBQ place. Great rhythm and blues songs playing, and the food was great! I'm sure it was bad for me, but hey I was on vacation. I had fried catfish, hushpuppies, and fries. Skip of course had the BBQ ribs. They had photos of rhythm and blues players. I liked this pic of Jake and Elwood from the Blues Brothers.



I couldn't get over the pigs playing guitars. LOL Click on the pic to get a larger view of them pigs.



While waiting for our tour bus I couldn't help but feed the pigeons. They came right up and took the crackers from my hand.




The Korean Memorial was so peaceful. I got some time to reflect on that war and the soldiers that died. One of which was my Uncle Glen Boothe. I didn't realize when I took the one photo that you could see our reflections in the monument.





We also stopped by the Reagan Building and had lunch before going on to visit the White House. Had to snap a photo of the donkey and elephant.

Some Pictures of DC

Just sharing a few pics today. I'm still recovering from the trip. It was long and hot. My car didn't have air conditioning and the ride was pretty sticky. Did lots of walking and stressed out my already injured knee. This was taken on top of the Lincoln Memorial this is the back of the monument. Love the horses at the top of the bridges.



This one is at the WWII memorial.



Front view of the Lincoln Memorial. We were both really bummed out as the Reflecting Pool had been drained. Tour guide said the pool was leaking so it needed to be drained for repair. Looked pretty ugly without the water.



I don't remember where this one was taken, but we liked the arches.

Coasters and Happy Birthday

I haven't made tile coasters for a long time. While helping Lisa with her moving she gave me a bag full of different tiles. I used StazOn Midnight Blue to stamp the images, then colored them in with SU Pastels. Yes you can use chalks to color the tiles. I was going to spray them with a sealer but didn't have any, so I used what I had on hand Mod Podge. Just used a foam brush to apply it. Gave them to Skip so he could use on his desk.

As you are reading this I should be unpacking and resting. We got home late Saturday from our trip to DC. I'll be sharing pictures with you during the week from the vacation.

Happy Birthday to my son John who turned 23 today. Hoping to take him out to dinner later.

VC Rocks Anything But a Card Blog Hop

Welcome to my little part of VC Rock Blog Hop. Theme for this hop: Anything but a Card. My project is made using Sizzix Milk Carton die. I turned the milk carton into a watering can simply by adding a handle with a strip of cardstock attached with brads. Word stamp is from Got Treats. The layer is a piece of Sweet Stitches fabric that I frayed around the edges. Finished off the container by adding butterflies made with Beautiful Wings Embosslits die.



On the side view you can see how the handle was attached. The flowers can be removed from the watering can and placed on the fridge as I've added magnets to the back of them. I've included a mini tutorial to show you how to make flowers. They are made using the Fancy Flower punch.



Start by punching cardstock 4 times, and designer paper 4 times with the Fancy Flower punch.



Use aqua painter and wet each of the flowers.



Crunch up each flower, taking care not to over crunch as you don't want to tear the damp flowers.



Flatten out each flower.



Start layering the flowers together by using a cardstock flower for the bottom, then a designer paper flower. Make sure to turn the flowers so the different layers will show.



Last flower will be a paper one. Put the stack on a piercing mat and use piercing tool to put hole in the center. Then use a brad to hold the layers together. Just use a small brad, you won't see the brad after the flower is completed.



Starting with the center paper flower crunch it together. Continue to crunch all layers of the flower.


The flower will look like this when all the flower layers have been crunched up.



Starting with the bottom flower layer start opening the layers up.



You can adjust an spread each layer till you are happy with the flower.

To make the flower stem I wrapped a wooden craft stick with green floral tape. I added a strip of red line tape on the back of the completed flower and attached it to the craft stick. Leaf stamp is from Flower Fest. I added magnets to the back of the flower stem so it could be used on the fridge.

Big Shot Die Dish Towel

I have been wanting to trim a dish towel using a big shot die for awhile now. I finally got to this project over the weekend. I used Sweet Stitches fabric from SU along with the Flower Fold die to make the flowers. They were easy to attach to the towel using Pellon Wonder Under. I also used the Wonder Under to attach the frayed strip of fabric.



For the flower centers I made three different sized yo-yo's and attached them with buttons. Couldn't be any easier. The towels I picked up at the "W" store. Company is Mainstays nice towels and very inexpensive.

Great News from Marianne

Marianne let me know that the border punch envelope I sent to her made it through
the mail just fine. You can see the post for the envelope in question here

Of course we both agree that it might be a glitch in the mail system as we know some of the cards do get damaged in the mail. I wonder if it helped that the envelope was made with cardstock and not designer paper. Marianne I think another test might be in order!!!
