Birthday Blog Candy WINNER!

Thanks so much for all the birthday wishes! I've enjoyed reading the memories of birthday's past. Thanks so much for sharing them. Wish I could send all of you blog candy but......Hubby drew the winner. Drum roll please.........................

Debby! You're the Winner! Please email your address to me clar42ie@aol.com

Here is what Debby shared

Mine would be my sweet 16 birthday party. It was even my golden birthday. My sister and Mom put it on and all my friends was there. After wards we got treated to the show. Two of the friends was born the same day the same year so we really had fun.
Great blog candy Karen, wish I had a store like that by me.

The Quilt

A little background is needed......My mom loved to piece quilts and get the tops set up, but she didn't like to quilt the tops. When I moved her to the nursing home last fall (OMG it's been a year now)I got all the tops. Plus...I had many tops that mom had given to me over the years. My dear friend Connie who didn't know what to get me for my birthday this year asked if I would like to have one of the quilt tops quilted. Well I jumped at that! Connie is an awesome quilter and crafter. So this is the completed work that arrived at my door today. Just love it! Thanks so much Connie!!! I'm going to take it to the home tomorrow and show mom. I know she will enjoy seeing it.

Birthday Blog Candy!!!

Hi everyone! My birthday is on 9-30 and I'd like to give someone a gift on my birthday. So I'm posting my very first blog candy. This includes two packs of rhinestone brads, one pack of gray brads( these match Going Gray ink), three rolls of fall ribbon, and a birthday stamp set from See D's. The stamp set is unmounted so you will need a clear block to use them. They are much bigger than the picture. They are shown at 60%. If you'd like a chance to win the blog candy just leave a comment to this post and share a favorite birthday memory. My favorite memory was when my two best friends came to visit me on my 40th birthday. They gave me 40 wrapped gifts one for each year. It was great! I'll have my hubby pull a winner from all who entered a comment and announce the winner on 9-30. Good luck!
**please note this will stay at the top of the blog till the winner is drawn, scroll down for new posts**

Set Sampler

Late posting. I stopped by a co-workers house after work. A bunch of us got together for a pot luck dinner. Was for my birthday. Awesome food! And did I mention cake?

I wanted to share some cards I made during the summer. I entered them in a contest and was one of the winners.(YAY) This one was the easiest to do. Just added a pop dot to pop out the flower.

Next one was a little more involved. Stamped the heart image on designer paper, cut out, and glued to images on cardstock.

Last one took the longest. Lots of masking. Thank goodness for the stamp a ma jig!

I'm going to call it a night. I have a wedding to go to tomorrow afternoon for one of my co-workers. Then I have to come home and make my birthday cake. I told mom I'd make one and bring it in to the home for her friends and nurses to enjoy.

Boil, Bubble, Toil and Trouble......

I received my Bella stamps earlier in the week, and I got to play a little bit last night. Love Witchabella! On this card I brought out the Cuttlebug to make the background layers. Bottom layer I used the small circle folder on designer paper. Too Fun!

What a mess last night! It poured down the rain and I didn't know my bedroom window was open so.......the water came in down the wall on the carpet, but it didn't stop there. It continued to channel into the downstairs bathroom, in the laundry room, and also....The HORROR my stamp room!!! Lucky no major damage in the stamp room. You see how that is my biggest concern, not any other room. LOL My area rug got wet,and the top of my new library files got a wet. Also a quilt top I had on the chair got a bit wet. All in all I got off easy.

On a side note I did sleep till 7 this morning. I feel so much better! So watch for new posts each evening from now on. A Gal needs her beauty sleep!!!

Sleeping In!

I am giving myself permission to sleep in tomorrow morning. Normally I get up at 6 am so I can post on my blog then get to work by 8. These early mornings are catching up to me so........I will post a new card tomorrow but it will not be till later in the evening when I get home from work. This will work much better for me. I really need some ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

Birthday Presents from Lisa and Kat

Yesterday I told you about my great mail day....I wanted to share photos of the wonderful gifts I received. Lisa made the cute little jar, and filled with embellishments. Thanks to her hubby Geoff for eating the chili inside the jar. Making Memories grommet kit and package of extra grommets, set of black and white cards in a card holder. Love the black and white theme. Thanks Lisa!

Kat's gifts included, stickles, ribbon for my addiction (that you will remember Lisa started), some wonderful stamps,
so many stamps...so little time! by A Muse
Stamped To Swap (she knows I'm in tons of swaps)
Through the ages every generation has asked what is art? Well...This Is Art! Now that enlightenment has come upon you. Go forth and create. The larger stamp I think you can read what it says. Just love them all! Also in the box, shiny cardstock in many different colors, large round tags in three different colors, and a cute little box that the stamps were in. Thanks Kat!
Both of the birthday cards are great! My friends spoil me way to much!
Thanks for all the birthday comments being left on my Birthday Blog Candy post. I've have enjoyed reading all your memories. Thanks so much for sharing them!
Have a great stamping day!

Say Hello To Karen.....Tropical Storm Forms in Atlantic

I can't remember having a storm with my name. I'm sure there has been, just don't remember or I was young when it happened. Hope "I" don't cause any damage

Test Tube (I feel like a mad scientist!)

I found this test tube at the local craft store. They come in three different sizes. The one shown is the largest of the three. Can't wait to work with the other sizes. I have to rack my brain to come up with fun ways to use them. I wonder if Dr. Frankenstein had as much fun when he created? The designer paper is from last year. I still had lots of it left so decided to use it instead of getting the new Halloween paper from Stampin'Up! Thanks Susan for sending me the cool chat candy (from VC Rocks). I was able to use it for the card and test tube. And speaking of test tubes, Halloween and stuff.....I found this spooky little guy in my flower bed. I have not seen a praying mantis in a very long while. I don't know about the rest of the states, but it is illegal to kill one in the state of Ohio.

Very happy mail day!!!! I received great birthday packages from my friends Lisa and Kat. I'll be taking pics during the week and posting the goodies here. You gals just spoil me. Thanks!
And speaking of birthdays.....Happy Birthday to Lisa, and her hubby Geoff, and Jaime who all celebrated birthdays this week.

I also received my Bella order. I think I'm going to just have to give up sleep all together so I'll have time to use all the new stamps. Just kidding Lisa. I was good last night and went to bed at 10:00.

Have a great stamping day!

Frosty/New Header

Happy Monday to all! Not really for me.......Mondays are no fun after having the weekend off from work. I think I must be related to Garfield...I dislike Monday's just as much as he does! Now the life of a my kitty is cool. Does not do anything he doesn't want to, comes and goes as he likes, has plenty of food, and people to pet and love him. Of course I can't remember the last time he stamped anything. LOL Okay I'll stop complaining about Monday.

This little sled was fun to make. It's 9 x 3 3/4 made from wood. You can mix dye based re-inkers with acrylic paint (sled was done with ivory paint by Delta) to make a wash to paint with. I used Bordering Blue for the top, and Sage Shadow for the running boards. I don't have a set recipe for the mix. Just add the paint to a small container and add the re-inker drops, mix with a Popsicle stick, add more re-inker till I achieve the color I'm wanting. Snowflakes on the top of the sled and running boards were stamped using Brocade Blue craft ink. I also sponged the sides of the sled with the same ink. I even remembered to use my Shimmery White cardstock. It is great to watercolor on! Just remember to use Jet Back StazOn ink. After Frosty was colored I ran it though the Xyron machine, added the black brads for buttons, then adhered it to the sled. The snow drifts are torn Shimmery White.

***Special thanks to Rick for adding the header to my Blog. Isn't it just wonderful! I'm so happy with it. You're the best Rick***

Hope everyone has a Happy Monday!!!

Busy day!

I went to visit mom. She got her new chair. When she had the stroke they took away her power chair an put her in a wheelchair, but they didn't have one that was a good fit for her, and I know she was uncomfortable in it. They did have one custom made just for her. It's very well padded and I think she's happier. June (standing) is mom's friend they are just across the hall from each other. She's from KY and mom is from VA so they hit it off right away and became friends. June has been taking mom out for walks and down for excerises, also bingo. Way to go June! So happy she is there to look in on mom on the days I can't be there.

After my visit with mom I stopped at my favorite store and spent 97.00! Found some great deals on ribbon, stamp sets, and some other goodies that I'll show later when I have them finished.

Hubby and I also went to the drive in last night for the last time of the season. We saw a shooting star. Very cool! It was cold! Down to 50 while we were there. Ended up going to the concession stand for hot chocolate.

Can you have tooooo many layers?

I was playing around last night with a new technique call Faux Flock. You can see this on the center Perfect Plum panel. I couldn't get the card the way I wanted so I kept adding layers. I think I got carried away! LOL Still......I'm okay with it. The technique itself is fun to do. This came from the Technique Junkies newsletter. If you want to learn more go to http://www.patstamps.com/

I received a very petty card yesterday from Kimm Bennington-Thompson. She told me this card was made for the Technique Junkies. It's called Stipple Frame technique. Love the colors and the layout. Thanks for the card Kimm, and thanks for letting me showcase it on my blog!
I'll be going out today to visit mom. I'm in yet another swap ( you can never be in to many!), so I'm going to take my supplies with me when I visit my mom. We sit in the main room and work. Mom can't help much but she likes to watch me work. We normally draw a crowd of onlookers when we work.
Hubby and I are going to catch one last drive in before the season is over. It's going to be 80 degrees here today, so it should be comfortable at the drive in. Will need to bring blankets and a coat. It's starting to get cooler in the evenings.
Hope everyone enjoys there weekend. Happy Stamping!

Barbie

Aren't these Barbie cards cute! They were made by my friend Connie. I should back track a bit. My other friend Lisa bought the stamps, and had the great idea to mail them to us so we could also make cards with them. Hanging my head in shame as I've have the stamps for close to two months and still have not made my cards.
I'm hoping to get to play with the stamps over the weekend. For those who may not know......I collect Barbie dolls. I never use to. Lisa got me hooked when she got me an Hallmark Barbie doll ornament back in the 90's when I was still living on Guam. A large part of my collect is packed as I don't have enough room in the house to display them, but I do have many of them up in my stamp room going around the top of the walls like a border. I'll have to take some pictures of the stamp room so I can show you. My space is off the family room in our split level home. It doesn't even have windows and the room when we bought the house was unfinished. Just bare 2 x 4's no drywall. So I got sheets of peg board and did the entire room with it instead of putting up drywall. It's more serviceable to me this way. I hang up lots of my stamping supplies. Speaking of the stamping room......it's a complete mess! So before I take any pics to share I'm going to have to first find my desk again! Another thing that I'll be doing over the weekend. TGIF!

Oil and Vinegar Bottle

I picked up this bottle at a dollar store weeks ago. Didn't really know what I would do with it but figured something would come to me. I was playing around last night and thought I could turn it into a photo holder to put in my mom's room at the home. Took three pieces of wire and coiled each at the top then twisted them together. Inserted in the hole at the top of the cap. Rest was easy just wrapped Night of Navy cardstock around the bottle. Used Very Vanilla and stamped in Garden Green with Baroque Motif. Center flower was inked with More Mustard, and edges inked in Really Rust using the rock and roll technique. I think the next time I make one of these I'll make the coils just a bit larger.
I can't believe that September is almost over! My birthday is coming up on the 30th. I hope you keep reading my blog because next week I'll be posting my very first blog candy in honor of my birthday! So stay tuned~

Bad old Puddy Tat!

Had a little bit of excitement last night. We have a indoor outdoor male cat Burbank, and he decided to bring mom a gift. I had fed him when I got home from work and he wanted outside, so I let him. About 15 minutes later I needed to go out to my car to get something. When I opened the door I saw Burbank on the front step with something in his mouth, before I could stop him he ran into the house. Now as he was getting in the door I reached down and grabbed him by the scruff of the neck and said you can bring that in here. Well I learned something.....never grab a cat by the scruff of the neck when he is holding something. He let it drop and the little brown fluff ball he was holding took off like a shot! Turned out to be a baby bunny. So now I'm home alone with a scared to death bunny running around in the house. Of course by this time Burbank starts chasing him again. I run out to the garage and get my hubby's work gloves come back in the house to find the cat had cornered the bunny behind a basket I have at the front door. Well I grabbed the bunny, all the while fighting off the cat who really wants his toy back. Bunny starts squealing at the top of his lungs. Did you know that bunnys make that noise? I sure didn't. I somehow manage to get the cat away from door and get the bunny back outside. He takes off like a bat out of you know where. And here I thought I was going to have a nice peaceful evening. I was working on my first tutorial for my blog. Well that got drop by the wayside and I created the card using Here Kitty, Kitty stamp set. I wrapped a piece of fiber up to make the bunny and added a scrap of cardstock for his ear. The saying was printed off the computer. I used Little Lamb font from Stampin'Up! cd.
Now I ask you how could this cute little face asleep on Sarah have caused so much trouble to me? Of course Sarah came home just after the excitement ended and when I told her my story she busted out laughing. Kids and cats!

98 Days till Christmas

Really! Time is just ticking away. I've been watching my diet and trying to eat things low in fat. I discovered Laughing Cow cheese wedges.

Only 35 calories per wedge. And tastes good! They come is this round container so I thought with Christmas just around the corner.....I could turn this into a gift box or dare I say Christmas ornament? Covered the box with Basic Grey Blizten paper, and used a 1.97 stamp set I picked up from Pat Catan's (I'll post more of these sets later) I took a gold paint pen and went over the leaves below the deer, and added red berries with Stickles. Added some ribbon (yes I used it) from yesterdays post, and now I have a pretty cool looking Christmas ornament. I have a hard time throwing stuff out. If I think I can alter it I put it in a basket and when an idea comes to me I can get something out and make it happen.

There is a great site just for getting ready for the holidays. I go to it every year just to help me stay on track for the busy holiday season. Check it out

http://organizedchristmas.com/modules.php?name=Web_Links&file=index

Now it I could just sit myself down long enough to start working on Christmas cards!

RIBBON!!

Okay now that I have your attention with the title of this posting....LOL I know there are more ribbon junkies out there, and I'm not the only one. I never use to be. There was a time when I didn't use much ribbon, and didn't have much on had. Of course that was until somebody......yes you know who you are.....got me addicted! That being said I needed to get out of the house yesterday, so I headed out to my favorite craft store and found this awesome fall ribbon for 1.00 a spool! I've not seen this type of ribbon before. It has strands of very fine jute running through it. I also found fall colors in grosgrain ribbon also for 1.00. Love the colors. I'll be using some of this soon to make some fall cards. Yes you heard me not only did I buy the ribbon I'm actually intending to use it!

I did get lots of stamping done yesterday. One of the projects I worked on uses the Apple Cider designer paper from the Holiday mini catalog. Love the colors, River Rock, Wild Wasabi, Really Rust, Close to Cocoa, all wonderful fall colors. I tried to get a little ahead so I made a Thanksgiving card and matching candle holder to give to my mom-in-law.
I don't know why I forget to use my crimper. I have it up on my tool shelf, and I had to dust it off yesterday! I can't remember the last time I used it. I crimped some River Rock cardstock, then cut it up into very narrow strips, and used it behind the focal point of the card. Stamp set used is a level two hostess set In the Spotlight. The flower is so easy! No cutting on that since there is a matching 5 petal punch. I used a white gel pen to make the dots. I wanted the flower to pop a bit more. The candle holder is filled with popcorn kernels. I just pushed the votive candle into it. You could also use sand.

Banana Bread

Just a wee bit chilly yesterday morning. Perfect time to make something in the oven! Tried out a new recipe Banana Peanut butter bread. It just made the whole house smell yummy! Here is the recipe:

1/2 cup butter, softened, 1 cup white sugar, 1/2 peanut butter, 2 bananas mashed, 2 cups all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon baking soda, 1/2 chopped walnuts

1. Preheat over to 325, lightly grease a 5x9 inch loaf pan

2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together butter and sugar. Add eggs; beat well. Stir in peanut butter, bananas, flour and baking soda until blended. Fold in walnuts. Pour into pan

3. Bake at 325 for 60 to 70 minutes, or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool on wire rack.

Tastes good with butter, but I enjoyed putting a bit of peanut butter on the warm bread. YUM!

I had some happy mail yesterday. Received two more obscure holiday cards. These two are from Lisa. International Peace Day 9-21-07. Great card! Good design and nice use of embellishments.
The second card is Elephant Appreciation Day. Another great card Lisa. She made this one for me as she knows I love Elephants. Funny story here. I'm making my cards this weekend and I was also going to do this obscure holiday, and I also found out that another person in this challenge....Connie was also going to select this one. So I'm switching gears at the last minute to find another one to do. Great minds think alike girls!! If you look at the older posts you will find info for the obscure holiday challenge I'm in. You'll also find a link to find a calendar just full of strange holidays!

Scrap Paper Ornament

Anyone who knows me......knows that on Friday night I stay up late! I work all week, so when Friday rolls around I like to make the most of my weekend so I'll stay up till around 2. Last night was no different. (Sorry Lisa) I know I don't get enough sleep, but there is to much to craft! This ornament is made from scrap strips of Basic Grey Blitzen designer paper. I used a quilling tool to roll up each strip, removed the cap from the ornament dropped them in and added a ribbon. Great way to use up those scraps! I think next time I make these (yes I'll be making more) I'll vary the width size of the strips. Should add more interest to the completed ornament. Christmas is coming! Only 101 days left. I'm amazed that we are half way through September already. Don't know where the time goes but it keeps ticking away. I need to get started on the Christmas cards again.

Priceless

Still working on using stamp sets I have not used before. This set is called Priceless. It's a wonderful set that goes well with all the Boho themed sets. I'm also trying to use accessories. This card has an oval bookplate from hodgepodge hardware kit. Still seems so nuts to buy stuff and not use it. I have a tendency to hoard my hardware pieces. I'm sure some of you who are reading this share my shame of not using stamping stuff you bought.....so you could have fun playing with it. Okay lets all get stamping stuff out of there hide-a-ways today and put them to use, on a card, scrapbook page or a 3 d item. Your stuff will thank you for it! It wants to be used!!!!!!

45 degrees last night!

Well Fall is trying to work it's way in! I had to bring out extra blankets last night and put on all the beds. Not complaining. Fall is my favorite season! So in honour of Fall I made this card. Stamp set is Autumn Leaf Prints. I got the stamp damp using the aqua painter, then scribbled the color on with watercolor crayons, stamped on the confetti white cardstock, then before it could dry I put on clear embossing powder, then heat set. I just love using purples for fall! Other colors used Always Artichoke, Mellow Moss, Elegant Eggplant. Ribbon I found once again at my favorite store!!!
Stopped and visited with mom last night. Some wonderful people brought in dogs to visit with the residents. Drat! Wish I would have brought the camera. One dog name Cricket is an Australian cattle dog. She is 18 months old and 40 pounds of pure muscle. I was surprised on how well behaved she was. Everyone loved her. I think from now on I'll have to plan to bring my camera with me for visits. Never know who or what will drop by to visit at the home. Mom was more perky last night than she has been in the past month. Hope that is a good sign. I'm going to stop by again tonight. I bought her a new comforter for her bed.

Here Kitty Kitty

I purchased this stamp set only because I just had to have the little wind up mouse. It's just to darn cute!! I'm challenging myself now to work with stamps I have that have never seen an inkpad. I also used some colors that I don't normally use together. Basic Grey, Apricot, Eggplant, and just a touch of Pretty in Pink. Remember earlier in the week I posted about a wonderful craft store Pat Catan's? Well they also have a ton of really cute punches for 3.00. The fish bone punch out on this card came from there. It's a medium size punch, but they also have this same punch in two other sizes. They come in small, medium, and large! I was good....I only had to have the medium size one. Speaking of Pat Catan's I'm going to stop by there later today on my way home from work. I'll be stopping by to see Mom and it's right on the way. I've had a few requests to pick up some Bling! (see Sunday's post). I really need to check on mom. I've been so sick that I've been staying away from her in her weak state I know I would have past my illness on to her. For those readers who may not know....mom had a major stoke right after Easter, and she has not recovered well from it.

Mulberry hmmm....

I posted a challenge on my yahoogroup yesterday to create a card using Mulberry. I can't even remember the last time I used Mulberry! I know I have some.....so I went rummaging through the many drawers in the stamp room and did come up with some white mulberry. I dyed the white mulberry artichoke by dropping a few reinker drops on the paper, then spreading it out with a damp foam brush. You have to be a bit careful or the paper will tear on you. I didn't want to wait for it to dry so I put it on my foil covered clip board, clipped one corner down so it wouldn't fly away and and zapped it with the heat gun. Before it was completely dry I tore the edges.

It just always amazes me how much stamping stuff I have when I start to look for something! If I never bought another embellishment, stamp, ink, or ribbon for that matter....I think my hoard would last me the rest of my life! Might have to buy cardstock, but that's it. Of course this realization will not keep me from the stamp stores. LOL Okay I'm off to work so I can earn more money to buy more supplies. A girl just has to have her priorities straight.

My daughter is a witch!

Just got a call from Sarah yesterday. She's at Cedar Point amusement park doing Hallo weekends. The park becomes haunted during September though Halloween. This is Sarah's 3nd year of being a walk around character. So she tells me they used the Live Entrainment flyer picture from last year, enlarged it and put it on both sides of the lead hurse in the Parade they are doing this year. So in good fun I made Sarah a Halloween card using a stamp I found at Archivers.

I had to write in "not so" next to the wicked witch image. This stamp was purchased at Michael's last year in the dollar spot. (Thanks Lisa for getting them for me!)

Bring on the Bling

I found these at a local craft store Pat Catan's. I can't believe Darice came out with clear, pearl and color rhinestone brads. A great price at 1.49 per pack. Of course I had to have them all! Pat Catan's is only located in OH and I think there is one store on the PA and OH border. I'm a VIP member so receive 50% any white ticket item. Non VIP members receive 40% off on white ticket items. Wish I could by stock in this Company. They get a lot of my money!!!

Obscure Holidays

My friends (Lisa, Connie, Kat, Debbie) all decided that we do not use our many stores of stamping supplies often enough. Lets face it......we hoard way to many of our "things"! So to encourage us to use those supplies we started making cards for some less know holidays. Each one of us will select two holidays each month and send cards to all of us. The fun part is not knowing what kind of card that will appear in our mailboxes. This card was made by Connie "Sewing Machine Day" Cute card Connie! Thanks! I'll be sharing more cards that I receive. Want to make your own obscure holiday card for someone? Check out this site.

Library Filing Cabinet

Dear Hubby got this filing cabinet for me from a school that was throwing it away. I just love it! We had to remove the bars on the inside of the drawers to make them a usable size. It has 30 drawers and I'm ashamed to admit I've filled most of them. Punches, glitter, pearl ex, embossing powders, brads, buttons and more! I want to stamp images to use in the bookplates in the drawer fronts but I haven't decided what to stamp.

Took the Plunge

Hi and a big Welcome to my Blog!! I have been resisting the urge to join the blogging world, but hey I know I'm in good company! There are so many wonderful blogs out there dedicated to stamping and scrapping, I just wanted to be a part of it all! I got to do a little stamping today. I made this fun card. The focal point is made using a puzzle. You can find these puzzles at Hobby Lobby or at a party store. All you do is remove the backing (be careful as you don't want to lose that little ball) use the back as a template to cut a circle from cardstock, stamp, and insert back on the puzzle. I used pop glue dots to secure the puzzle to the card.
